Below is a family biography included in The History of Warrick County, Indiana published by Goodspeed, Bros. & Co. in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. JONATHAN ROBERTS, a prominent citizen and an old settler of Ohio Township, is a native of Caledonia County, Vt., and was born on December 10, 1819, the third in a family of five children born to Joshua and Joanna (Stevens) Roberts, who were natives of New Hampshire. In about the year 1834 they removed from Vermont to Ohio, remaining there until 1839, when they came to Warrick County, Ind., and settled in Boon Township, where they remained until their respective deaths. Jonathan remained at home with his parents until he attained his majority, receiving a common school education. March 20, 1842, his marriage with Delilah Alexander was solemnized, and to their union have been born six children, the following named yet living: William F., who married Alice Law; John R., George W., whose wife was Norah I. Hunt; and Maria J., now Mrs. William Mitchum. Mr. Roberts’ occupation through life has been farming, at which he has been fairly successful, now owning seventy acres of well improved land. In October, 1864, he was called upon by his country to assist in putting down the Rebellion and he went into the service in Company I, Twelfth Indiana Regiment, where he served until June, 1865, when he was discharged at Harewood Hospital, Washington, D. C. Mr. Roberts is a Republican in politics and he and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
