JOSEPH ELLISON, one of the oldest and most honored farmers of Boon Township, was born September 24, 1818, in Warrick County, Ind., the eldest of nine children born to John and Mary (Martin) Ellison. The father came from Kentucky to this county in 1816, where he resided and engaged in farming until his death in about 1845, a member of long standing in the Baptist Church. His wife’s death preceded his demise some two or three years. Joseph passed his youth and early manhood with his parents, assisting in such duties as were common on the farm at that early day and receiving a very limited education from the pioneer subscription schools. When twenty-one years of age he left home and began farming in the extreme northeastern part of this township, where he has ever since resided and where he now owns valuable property. In politics he has always been a Democrat, and as such has always taken an active part in the support of all laudable public enterprises. At the age of twenty-two years he wedded Mary Polk, a native of Kentucky, by whom he is the father of three children named Amanda, now Mrs. Stephen Kelley, Sarah E. and John. Although considerably advanced in years Mr. Ellison is yet hale and hearty, and bids fair to live many years longer, and thus fulfill the wishes of his many friends.
