Below is a family biography included in The History of Warrick County, Indiana published by Goodspeed, Bros. & Co. in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. DR. WILLIAM H. McVEY, of Selvin, was born in the adjoining county of Spencer June 21, 1842, the third son in a family of nine children born to Samuel and Parmelia (Ice) McVey. These parents were natives of Virginia, where they were married, their respective births occurring January 12, 1811, and May 5, 1812. They moved to Spencer County, Ind., in 1833, where Mr. McVey died January 11, 1857, and his widow March 17, 1880, both members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. When eighteen years old the subject of this biography began doing for himself by commencing the study of medicine with Dr. Reuben Peregrine, of Centerville, having previously received a good education from the common schools. When in his twenty-first year he graduated from the Cincinnati Eclectic Medical College, and for the succeeding eight months practiced medicine at Newtonville, Ind. He then located at Crowville, where he was married July 6, 1866, to Miss Martha J. Thompson, who was born February 19, 1842, a daughter of George W. and Esther (Burris) Thompson. He remained there practicing until 1873, when he removed to Selvin, which has since been his home and where he has an established practice. Dr. McVey is a Democrat; has served Pigeon Township as Trustee, and is an Ancient Odd Fellow and an ex-member of the A. O. U. W.
