RICE, W. O., farmer and dairyman, Sec. 11; P. O. Fort Madison; among the prominent and worthy citizens of Washington Tp.; son of the pioneer, Col. Jonas R. Rice; he was born in Templeton, Mass., in 1838; when 9 months of age, was brought by his parents to this county; received an education such as was afforded by the common schools of the day, and two years at the Denmark Academy. At the age of 24, married Miss Martha A., daughter of Thos. M. Morgan, a pioneer of Lee Co., who came here in the fall of 1839, from Ohio; she was born on the farm where they now reside, in 1846, which they now own, consisting of 130 acres, valued at $45 per acre; they have two children — Frank M., born Jan. 9, 1866, Arthur E., Dec. 31, 1869. Republican; members of the Christian Church, of which he is clerk.
