Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885. These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. A. W. VIOLETT was born October 23, 1816, in Henry County, Ky., and is a son of John and Nancy (Thomas) Violett. Both parents were born in Virginia, and were of English and French origin. The father died in 1833, aged fifty-six; the mother died in 1843 aged about fifty. A. W. Violett has been a resident of Ballard County since 1843, and has been mostly engaged in agricultural pursuits, but was also engaged in merchandising several years. He owns three farms, consisting of 550 acres. One of these farms, consisting of 200 acres, lies in and adjoining Bardwell. Mr. Violett has owned most of the land where Bardwell is situated, and at present owns about one third of the town, together with twelve houses and the hotel. All of this property he has acquired by good management and close attention to business. He was married in 1856 to Mrs. Mosby, of Owen County, Ky. She died in 1880, leaving five children—four sons and one daughter. Mrs. Violett had one daughter by her former marriage, Dink Mosby, now Mrs. Halterman, of Arlington.
