Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

WILLIAM T. WIMAN, Graves County, a native of Meade County, Ky., was born January 18, 1832, and is the third of fifteen children of Milton S. and Elizabeth (Thorp) Wiman, natives of Washington County, Ky., and of Dutch and Scotch descent respectively. December 16, 1852, he married Miss Amanda M., daughter of James and Elizabeth (Fulgham) Lamm, natives of Tennessee, and to his union with her were born twelve children: John M., Minerva A. (now Maxey), Margaret E., a fourth child never named, William A., George H., Thomas O., James A., Mary E., Hattie A., Walter G. and Holly O. The parents of Mr. Wiman brought him to Graves County when he was but a year and a half old, and settled upon 320 acres of land, unimproved, save by a little cabin and one and a half acres of cleared land near where our subject now resides. Milton S. Wiman and three of his sons were Missionary Baptist preachers, and of this church subject and wife and six of his children are members. Milton S., a pioneer preacher, preached in every community of the Purchase, and died December 10, 1863, at the age of fifty-five years. William T. has been a deacon and clerk of the church and is now a lettered member. He owns 132 acres of land and is highly respected in the community.
