JOSEPH KENNEDY, Hickman County (deceased), was born August 9, 1820, in Bourbon County, Ky., where he grew to manhood; in 1849 he came to Hickman County, where he resided until his death April 27, 1885. His father, Jesse Kennedy, a native of Bourbon County, was born in 1787, and died at the same place in 1863. He commanded a “pack-horse” brigade in the war of 1812, and was four times representative in the legislature. He was the son of Thomas, a native of Maryland, who was born in 1744, went to Virginia in 1775, to Bourbon County in 1776, to Strades Station in 1779; was a carpenter and mason, and died in 1827. He was the son of John, of Ireland, who was kidnapped, and sold in Maryland. Jesse married Mary Waugh, who died in 1828. Their children are: Thomas, Franklin, Jesse G., subject, Washington, George, William W. and Mary M. (Kennedy), Joseph Kennedy was married February 24, 1848, to Miss Elizabeth A., daughter of Milton P. and Rebecca (Miller) Wheat, of Columbia, Ky., and to them were born: Milton J. (deceased), Jo-Ella (Winter), who died August 16, 1884, Julia A. (Bell), Thomas G. (deceased), Susan M. (Salmon), Sarah F. (Smith), Allie W. (Deweese). Mr. Kennedy was a farmer, and owned 370 acres of valuable and productive land in a fine state of cultivation. He was an active member of the Christian Church, and in politics was a Democrat.
