EMMETT C. RUDOLPH was born in Montgomery County, Tenn., January 15, 1844. His father, John E. Rudolph, was a native of the same county. He removed to McCracken County in 1852, locating where our subject at present resides. The farm was but partly opened at the time, but a number of improvements were at once undertaken and consummated, which add comfort and greatly enhance the value of the farm. The father continued farm pursuits until his death, which occurred February 15, 1873. He was twice married. His first wife was Susan E. Herring, of Montgomery County, Tenn.; she died July 31, 1851, the mother of four children. His second wife, formerly Lucy A. Hargis, also of Montgomery County, Tenn., still survives him; there was one child by this union. Our subject was the eldest of the family of children, and his assistance was required on the home farm until he became of age. The following year he started out for himself as a farm laborer, working by the month, and was thus engaged until his marriage, which occurred January 14, 1869, after which he moved on his present farm, which consists of 115 acres. He has also two other farms in the county, in a good state of cultivation. His wife, formerly Miss Malvira V. Holt, died March, 28, 1873, leaving three children: Claude L., Leslie B. and Mollie E. Mr. Rudolph is a man of great industry and enterprise, public-spirited and energetic; he has rendered much assistance to public enterprises and is regarded with high esteem by his fellow-citizens. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity and is active in his encouragement of the temperance movement. He at present fills the position of justice of the peace, in which he has served many times.
