Below is a family biography from the book, History of Kentucky, Edition 1 by J. H. Battle, W. H. Perrin and G. C. Kniffin and published by F. A. Battey Publishing Company in 1885.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

FREDERICK KAMLEITER, of the city of Paducah, Ky., was born in Bavaria, Germany, in the year 1840, and came thence to the United States in 1856. In that year he located in the town of Cairo, Ill., where he was variously employed until the breaking out of the civil war, in 1861. He then enlisted in the Federal Army, as a member of Company M, sharpshooters, in the Fourth Missouri Infantry, in the three months’ service. At the expiration of his term of enlistment he joined the Second Illinois Artillery, Battery C, from which he was mustered out at Springfield, Ill., at the close of the war. Among the various battles in which he took part were those of Fort Donelson, Pittsburg Landing, Corinth, Miss., and Springfield, Mo. Since January, 1866, Mr. Kamleiter has been a resident of Paducah, where for a few years he was employed as salesman in a mercantile house. About 1868 he established himself in business, which has grown from a limited trade, on a small capital, to one of the first houses in the city. He is located on the corner of Locust and Adams Streets, Nos. 110, 112 and 114, and deals in groceries, provisions and feed. Mr. Kamleiter is now serving his second term as a member of the city council, representing the Fourth Ward. He is a member of the German Lutheran Church, A. F. & A. M., I. O. O. F., A. O. U. W. and K. of H. He was married in Paducah, in 1868, to Miss Margaret, daughter of Tobias Beyer, a native of Germany. Their children are Katie, Louisa and Henry.
