GEORGE W. CROWDER was born in Washington county, Ky., Feb. 23, 1823. At the age of nine years his father removed to Sangamon county, Ill., and again in 1843 to Mahaska county, Iowa. In the fall Marion, Linn county, Iowa, became his home; living a short time after this in Illinois. Sept. 4, 1873, found him a citizen of Oronogo, Jasper county, Mo., where he now resides. He was married in May, 1846, to Eliza Winberly, in Mahaska county, Iowa, where she was born and raised. She became the mother of ten children, only three of whom are living, two sons, whose names are Thomas and Addison, and a daughter, Lewella. Mr. Crowder and wife were formerly members of the Christian Church. He was engaged in mining until broken down by ill-health, but now is engaged in a general feed store, with good prospects and a good business.
