George Gascoigne, farmer, Newton County, Mo., is a native of Yorkshire, England, born in 1834. His father, John R., was a native of the same place, as was also his mother, whose maiden name was Mary Taylor. The father, who was a farmer, reared his son George to farm life. The latter, who has followed this occupation all his life, in 1872 left his native country, crossed the ocean to the United States, and purchased 200 acres of land in Newton County, Mo. He at once commenced improving this land, but owing to some misunderstanding in regard to the title of his property he has been put to inconvenience and expense in establishing his claim, which, however, has recently been settled in his favor. He was married in 1869 to Miss M. E. Staniland, also a native of England. This union has resulted in the birth of one child, Annie. Mr. Gascoigne is a worthy, enterprising farmer, and has the respect of all with whom he is acquainted. He is wide-awake and industrious, and would succeed where many would fail.
