George W. Silvey. In giving a history of the enterprising and successful businessmen of Webster County, Mo., a brief sketch of Mr. Silvey is in order. He is a prosperous farmer and stock raiser of the community, and was born in Roane County, Tenn., February 25, 1826, having been a resident of Missouri since 1837, when he immigrated here with his parents, Charles and Lucretia (Howard) Silvey, from Mississippi, whither they had moved from their native State in 1834. He was reared on a farm on Finley Creek, and at the age of twenty-three years was married, on the 11th of October, 1849, to Minerva J., a daughter of Charles Denny, one of the pioneer settlers from Kentucky. Mrs. Silvey was born in Kentucky, and after her marriage she and Mr. Silvey settled on their present farm of 324 acres, which was then raw land, heavily covered with timber. He has now 125 acres cleared and under cultivation, on which are erected a good dwelling house and fair out-buildings. Their family of children are as follows: Charles, who was married, and is now deceased; Smiley, who is married, and resides in the county; Letitia Ann (deceased), wife of Cornelius Lofton; William, who is married and resides in the county; Catherine, wife of Frank Wright, of Douglas County; George, who was married, and is deceased; Jackson is married, and lives in Taney County, Mo.; Zerilda, wife of E. G. Denny; Susan, wife of John Wright; James, Elizabeth and Thomas. The family attend the Free Will Baptist Church, of which Mr. and Mrs. Silvey are members, and during the late war Mr. Silvey served in the Home Guards and State Militia for some time.
