Below is a family biography included in The History of Brown County, Ohio published by W. H. Beers & Co. in 1883.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. Family biographies often include far more information than can be found in a census record or obituary.  Details will vary with each biography but will often include the date and place of birth, parent names including mothers' maiden name, name of wife including maiden name, her parents' names, name of children (including spouses if married), former places of residence, occupation details, military service, church and social organization affiliations, and more.  There are often ancestry details included that cannot be found in any other type of genealogical record.

FREDERICK W. BOEHM, farmer, P. O. Georgetown, was born in Saxony, Germany, January 19, 1838. He is a son of Frederick Joseph and Caroline (Suntay) Boehm, both natives of Saxony. The former came to America in 1851, locating near Arnheim, in Franklin Township, where he purchased fifty-three acres of land. He afterward removed to Lewis Township, where he died in the fall of 1881. Mrs. Boehm departed this life February 21, 1879 The subject of this notice was reared on the farm in Franklin Township, and when eighteen years of age learned the shoemaker’s trade. He served a two years’ apprenticeship, and subsequently worked at the trade two years. He then commenced farming for himself, on fifty-two acres of land, in Lewis Township, where he remained thirteen years. In February, 1882, Mr. Boehm purchased of John Markley 301 ½ acres of land, being a portion of the “old Devore farm,” where he now resides; 200 acres of this farm is under cultivation, and about 100 acres is wood land. Mr. Boehm has been a hard worker through life, and deserves credit for the unusual business ability he has displayed in his farming operations. He is insured in the Equitable Life Insurance Company and has been confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He was married, in 1862, to Catherine Neu, a native of Adams County, Ohio. They are the parents of nine children, Emma L., Henry W., Albert H., Matilda, Freddie A., Charlie E., Oscar, Johnnie and Edward.
