J. H. FRY, farmer, P. O. New Harmony, was born in Brown County December 29, 1829, and is a son of James and Judith Fry. She was a native of Pennsylvania, and came to this State with her parents. J. H. Fry was married, May 25, 1850, to Sarah A. Newbury, and engaged in farming for himself as renter. Thus he continued until 1852, when he bought thirty acres of land, and has since added eight acres more. He had but $3 in cash when he commenced work for himself. He acquired a limited education in the common schools. He and his wife both belong to the Methodist Church at Salem. Eleven children are the fruits of their marriage, of whom six are living — Mary, Sarah E., John, Martha J., Joseph and Fannie. Mr. Fry has been an industrious farmer thus far in life, and his record has been such that his children can point to it with pride.
