CHARLES WESLEY McMINN was born in Salisbury, Lancaster county, Pa., Dec. 11, 1842. His grandfather, Robert McMinn, was the son of a Scotchman, and was born in Lancaster county, as was his father, Isaac Wilson. The latter married Mary A. Bender, also a native of Lancaster county, and died at the age of thirty-five; his widow now resides there. He was a teacher, and kept a country store. C. W. McMinn attended the public schools, and taught one year; and when twenty-two years old came to Pittsburgh, where he attended the Iron City Commercial College. He then taught in what is now the Twenty-first ward of Pittsburgh for eight years, it being in Collins township during the first three years. For several years he was clerk in a dry-goods store in Pittsburgh, and in 1882 built and stocked his present store on Centre street, Brushton, a continuation of Tioga street, Pittsburgh. He took up his residence here in 1872, and has held a number of township offices. He was formerly a republican, now a democrat. He is a trustee in the M. E. Church, of which Mrs. McMinn is a member. He is a member of the A. O. U. W., of the R. A. and of the Order of Solon. His marriage with Miss Caroline Chadwick, a daughter of Thomas Chadwick, took place in 1866, and their living children are Harrie F., Jennie E., Mary A. and Clara; the second, third and fourth died when very young.
