After engaging in the gardening business for three years at the East End, he came into Pittsburgh in 1877, and commenced the produce business, under firm name of Steele, Tate & Co. Eighteen months later he bought out Mr. Steele, and the firm became Thomas Tate & Co., which continued until 1880. In 1882 he again embarked in the commission business, the style of the firm being the Pittsburgh Produce Commission company, Myers & Tate, proprietors.
