Below is a family biography included in The History of Williamson County, Tennessee published by Goodspeed Publishing Company in 1887.  These biographies are valuable for genealogy research in discovering missing ancestors or filling in the details of a family tree. C. R. TURNER was born in Williamson County July 10, 1831, and is the third of nine children born to John and Sallie (Richerson) Turner. Our subject was reared on a farm and had reached the age of seventeen when his father died, leaving him control of the farm and care of the large family. In 1867 he wedded Miss Martha J. McCord, a native of this State, born March 1, 1846, and the second of eight children born to Newton and Sallie A (Knott) McCord. To Mr. and Mrs. Turner were born six children: William H. C. (deceased), born January 16, 1877: James R. (deceased), born March 1, 1882: John N. born February 3, 1868; Sarah E., born March 24, 1875; Anna T., born September 30, 1874, and Maggie L., born October 15, 1879. Mrs. Turner died October 25, 1882, and our subject then married, November 15, 1883, Martha J. Wood, a native of this State, born June 14, 1843, and the daughter of William T. and Louisa E. (Crocket) Wood. In 1862 our subject enlisted in Company D. Holeman’s regiment, and remained in the army until the fall of 1864, when he returned home. In 1867 he moved to his present farm, which contains 145 acres of good land. Mr. Turner is a Democrat in politics.
