Coronado, California, Hotel del Coronado, 1900, historic photo, main hotel view

A historic photo view of the Hotel del Coronado, Coronado, California as it appeared in about 1900. When this hotel opened in 1888, it was the largest such resort hotel in the world. It remains as the largest hotel built of wood in the United States. This hotel has long been a favorite of the rich and famous including many from Hollywood, business, and politics. Since its opening in 1888, sixteen different presidents have stayed here including every president from Franklin D. Roosevelt to Barack Obama. Though there have been numerous updates and expansions, the appearance of the Hotel del Coronado remains substantially the same in appearance today as it does in this early photograph. This photo is a portion of a larger panoramic photo by William Jackson, 1900, Detroit Photograhic Co. See below for the full width version of the photo.
