The tombstone and grave site of the actor, Jack Lemmon. Lemmon was born as John Uhler Lemmon III in Newton, Massachusetts on February 8, 1925. In a career that lasted more than fifty years, Lemmon appeared in more than sixty films. His first role was in The Lady Takes A Sailor (1949). For his roles in eight films, Lemmon was nominated for an Academy Award and was the first actor to win the award twice: Mister Roberts (1955) and Save The Tiger (1973).

In a very active and in demand career, between 1954 and 2000, Lemmon had roles in a movie in nearly every year. In several years, Lemmon had a role in more than one film. Several of his memorable roles were alongside fellow actor Walter Matthau including in The Odd Couple (1986) with Jack Lemmon as Felix Unger and Walter Matthau as Oscar Madison; and together again in Grumpy Old Men (1993).

Jack Lemmon died of bladder cancer on June 27, 2001 in Los Angeles, California; he was 76 years old. The remains of Jack Lemmon are buried in Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery in Los Angeles, California. The inscription on the tombstone reads simply, "Jack Lemmon In" leaving it possible for the reader to fill in the name of their favorite Lemmon movie.
