The actor John Candy was born as John Franklin Candy on October 31, 1950 in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. Though he died at the relatively young age of only 43, he had a successful television and movie career of more than twenty years. His first movie appearance was in an uncredited role in Class of '44 in 1973. This was followed by other several minor movie roles in the early to mid 1970's. In 1976, he joined the cast of the Second City comedy TV show where he was known for the wide range of characters he played.

Other more notable movie roles followed in the 1980's and early 1990's. A few of his more well known movie appearances included The Blues Brothers (1980); Stripes (1981); National Lampoon's Vacation (1982); Splash (1984); Brewster's Millions (1984); Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987); Spaceballs (1987); The Great Outdoors (1987); Who's Harry Crumb? (1988); Only the Lonely (1991); and Cool Runnings (1993).

Candy's last two movies were Wagons East! (1994) and Canadian Bacon (1995), both of which were released after his death. While in Durango, Mexico filming Wagons East!, Candy died in his sleep of an heart attack. John Candy was 43 years old. Candy's remains are interred in a crypt, high on the wall, in the mausoleum at Holy Cross Cemetery, Culver City, California.
