The Ponce de Leon Hotel, St. Augustine, Florida, was built in 1888 by Henry M. Flagler, a co-founder of the Standard Oil Co. This was the first hotel building ever built that was constructed entirely of poured concrete. The twin towers were originally constructed to function as water towers. No expense was spared in construction, interior design and attention to detail. This was truly one of the most elegant luxury resort hotels of its day.
The building still exists and since 1968 has been a central feature of the campus of Flagler College, St. Augustine, Florida.
