A vintage postcard of the Moore County Court House and McConnell Memorial at Carthage, North Carolina. This postcard view is from about 1920. The McConnell Memorial is in honor of James Rogers McConnell who was a citizen of Carthage, North Carolina and who was also a member of the French Lafayette Escadrille during World War I. The French Lafayette Escadrille was a French Air Service group largely composed of volunteer American pilots who fought on behalf of France against Germany during World War I. The inscription on the monument reads:
