The Arcade, Superior and Euclid, Cleveland, Ohio. The Arcade opened in May, 1890 as the first indoor shopping center in America and was also known as Cleveland's Crystal Palace. The five story shopping area was built at a cost of $875,000 which was an enormous amount of money at the time. Adjoining this building are twin multi-story towers of business offices. This postcard view is from about 1910.
A sixty million dollar renovation of the historic building was completed in 2001. The building is now known as the Arcade Cleveland and houses a number of retail shops and restaurants and includes the Cleveland Hyatt Regency Hotel.
