His body was returned for burial in the cemetery in Plymouth Notch, Vermont, the birthplace and hometown of his youth, to be buried next to his son, Calvin Coolidge, Jr. His son had died during the first year of his father's presidency after developing an infection from a blister he received while playing tennis with his brother John. He died one week later. This was during the time before the development of penicillin or other antibiotics. Calvin Jr. was sixteen at the time of death.
