Abraham Lincoln Delivering His Second Inaugural Address, March 4, 1865, historic photo
An historic photo of Abraham Lincoln delivering his second inaugural address as President, March 4, 1865. Lincoln can be seen standing near the center of the photograph. At this point in time, the Civil War was nearing an end with Robert E. Lee surrendering on April 9, 1865. Less than a week after Lee's surrender, Lincoln was shot on April 14, 1865 and died the following morning, April 15. Lincoln was dead just six weeks after this photo was taken, making it one of the last photos ever taken of Lincoln.
