Lincoln Funeral Train Engine Nashville of the Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati Railroad, 1865, historic photo
An historic photo of a train engine used on one of the trains used to carry the body of President Abraham Lincoln during the funeral ceremonies held in numerous locations along the route from Washington, D. C. to Springfield, Illinois where he was buried. A special funeral train would retrace the route he took to Washington when he was first elected President taking a long route through Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. Several train engines were used along the route, each with a portrait of Lincoln on the front of the train engine. This photo was likely taken during the trip thru Ohio on April 28-29, 1865.
