Hearse used to carry the body of President Abraham Lincoln, May, 1865, historic photo

An historic photo of the hearse used to carry the body of President Abraham Lincoln during the funeral ceremonies held in numerous locations along the route to Springfield, Illinois where he was buried. A special funeral train would retrace the route he took to Washington when he was first elected President taking a long route through Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. At each stop along the route, the special hearse shown in this photo was unloaded from the train for the ceremonies and public viewings. This photo was taken in Springfield, Illinois, May 3-4, 1865.

Time table:
April 14: President Lincoln assassinated at Ford's Theatre, Washington, D. C.
April 15: Lincoln died in AM, Washington, D. C.
April 18: Public viewing in Washington, D. C.
April 21: Lincoln's casket was loaded on a special funeral train that would retrace the route he took to Washington when he was first elected President.
April 21: Public viewing in Baltimore, Maryland.
April 21-22: Public viewings in Harrisburg and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
April 24-27: Public viewings in New York City, Albany, and Buffalo, New York.
April 28-29: Public viewings in Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio.
April 30: Public viewing in Indianapolis, Indiana.
May 1: Public viewing in Chicago, Illinois.
May 3: Public viewing in Springfield, Illinois.
May 4: Burial in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, Illinois.
