Boston, Massachusetts, King's Chapel and Burying Ground, 1900-1910, historic photo

An historic photo of the King's Chapel and King's Chapel Burying Ground, Boston, Massachusetts. The historic King's Chapel was built during 1749-1754 to replace an earlier church building at this same location. The original design plan included a steeple but it was never constructed. The columns along the front of the building appear to be stone but are actually painted wood. This building is located at the corner of Tremont and School Streets, is still in use and open the public. King's Chapel is one the prominent locations on Boston's famed Freedom Trail. See the additional photos below.

The King's Chapel Burying Ground located next to the church (seen at the left of the building in this photo) was founded in 1630 (the first cemetery in Boston) and contains the graves of numerous early Boston residents including John Winthrop, the first governor of Massachusetts and also of Mary Chilton who arrived as a passenger on the Mayflower.

The photo above was created by Detroit Publishing Co., circa 1900-1910.
